a little about me
woman, mother, wife, grandmother, counsellor, nurse, daughter, sister, neighbour, advocate...
Professionally I am a registered nurse and a student studying for professional counselling. I have a broad range of experiences from critical care nursing to community nursing, working with foster children, incarcerated individuals, and survivors of sexual trauma. As a nurse, I have witnessed the strength, courage, and tenacity of humans in the face of crisis. I have also seen the brokenness and pain from the loss of relationships, connection, loss of hope, and meaning. I work from a culturally sensitive standpoint and trauma-informed perspective, focused on my clients to identify strengths and support them on their unique path.
I invite you to a safe, therapeutic setting where I am here to listen with empathy and compassion. You will be accepted without judgment. Together, we will explore the challenges you face, gain new understandings, and develop strategies to empower you to live a life of meaning.

Connections
Humans look for connection from birth
we seek
to belong,
to be accepted
to be loved
relationships are central
to all human lives,
humans innately seek out
connection
as a source
of meaning
and
empowerment in life
for many, however,
these connections,
these
precious relationships
hurt us
the connections are broken

we feel betrayed
trust is lost
we are hurt
we experience real pain
humiliation, shame, anger

so of us learn to hide behind negativity and cynicism
some of us hide behind strained smiles
we bend and twist ourselves to fit
with people who
hold power over us:
community, employers, friends, family, parents
partners

we may turn to addictions or self-harm
we can become isolated
we isolate to protect ourselves
emotionally
and/or
physically

we may sink into depression,
blame ourselves
people ask us why we feel that way
they tell us,
"you are a great person!
talented, creative, awesome!"
but we don't feel it inside

if you identify with any of these feelings,
I want you to know
you are not alone

there are ways of
healing, reconnecting
finding peace and acceptance
for things that cannot be changed
and
experiencing the joy life can bring
